Frequently Asked Questions

Honest answers to the questions we hear most, about the object itself, and about ordering it.

The Object

Is the leather genuine, or is it a vegan/PU leather?

Both, depending on the piece. Some sets in the range are finished in genuine, full-grain leather; others use a premium PU leather, chosen for its lighter weight and consistency across colors. Each product page states exactly which one you're getting, in the Details section.

Won't the checkers and pieces feel light or cheap?

No. Each checker is cast to a confident 2 cm and weighted to feel substantial in hand, and the dice cups are sized to match, so the game feels as good as it looks.

Will the hinges or closure hold up over time?

On our full-grain leather pieces, hinges and inlay are fitted by hand so the board closes true. It's built for years of regular use, not just for the first few games out of the box.

Will it suit a modern or minimal interior?

That's the intent. Warm ivory, deep black, discreet brass, no crests, no gold overload, no casino aesthetic. It's designed to sit quietly in a room the way a considered piece of furniture would, not to compete with it.

Why full-grain leather on some pieces, and PU leather on others?

Full-grain leather develops a noble patina with handling instead of cracking or fading, which suits an object meant to last generations. Premium PU leather is the more practical choice for travel, gifting, and everyday use across more colors, still finished to the same standard of care. We use each where it makes the most sense, rather than defaulting to one material across the whole range.

Is It Worth It

Will this just end up forgotten in a drawer, like most games?

That's exactly what it's built against. Every set closes compact enough for a shelf and opens to a full playing surface, designed to work as well left out as it does mid-game, so there's no drawer to forget it in.

Is this a good gift, or just another generic present?

It's built to be given and actually used, an object substantial enough to notice, precise enough for a real game, and made to still be doing both a decade from now. The kind of gift that doesn't need a bow to feel considered.

Is backgammon still worth playing, or is it outdated?

It's one of the oldest games in the world, older than chess, and its 24 points are exactly where the name XXIV comes from. It's a game built around real conversation, not a screen, which is exactly why it's finding its way back onto coffee tables.
