Cabinet Chess — Burl
- Two additional queens, included.
- A felt-lined drawer set into the base.
- Metal pieces in antiqued pewter and copper.
- A burl-figured field, 12″ with cut corners.
Worth the money? Played two evenings a month and kept for ten years, a set works out at about a dollar a game. The real cost of a cheap board is not the price it is that it never comes off the shelf.

Description
You promote a pawn, reach for a second queen, and end up standing a rook upside down.
Here the spare queens are already in the drawer. Promotion is just a move again, and when the evening ends the whole game slides away under the board.

Two details do most of the work here. The first is the pair of extra queens: a pawn that reaches the eighth rank gets a real piece instead of an upturned rook, which matters more the longer you keep playing. The second is the drawer — felt-lined and recessed, it slides out of the moulded base and takes the set with it, so putting the game away is one motion rather than a hunt for the box.
Who it's for: the player who keeps one game running across several evenings and wants it to look at home on a side table between moves.
This is the compact one. If you want more board, the Cabinet Chess — Walnut runs the same drawer idea at fifteen inches, and the Wooden Inlay Chess trades the drawer for a fitted tray. All of them sit together under chess sets and boards.

FAQ
When will I receive my order?
Orders are delivered within 6 to 8 business days, and your estimated delivery date is shown at checkout.
What if the set isn't right for me?
Every order is covered by a 30-day guarantee with free returns. If it isn't what you hoped for, send it back within 30 days for a refund.
How can I be sure of the quality before ordering?
Each product page lists the real materials, dimensions and everything included. We describe every set exactly as it is, without embellishment.
And if it doesn't meet your expectations on arrival, our 30-day free-return guarantee means there is no risk in trying it.
Are the colors true to the photos?
We photograph each set to represent it as faithfully as possible. Keep in mind that screens vary, and natural materials such as wood, marble and leather carry their own grain and veining, so small differences from one piece to the next are normal, and part of the character.
What are the exact dimensions?
Full dimensions, open and closed, are listed in the Details section of every product page, along with the checkers, dice and everything included in the box.
Is it made to be played, or just for display?
Both. Every set is a complete, playable board with its full set of checkers and dice, designed to look just as good left out on a table or shelf as it does in play.
Is my payment secure?
Checkout runs on an encrypted, PCI-compliant payment system. Your card details are never seen or stored by us.
Can I send it as a gift?
Yes. You can ship an order straight to the recipient's address, and many of our sets come cased, so they present beautifully as a gift on their own.
